BALTIMORE — In the time it takes to rush from one end of M&T Bank Stadium to the other, Maryland’s lacrosse team turned what could have been a disappointing defeat into an overtime victory over Duke on Saturday.

The seventh-ranked Terrapins won their ACC opener, 11-10, on junior attackman Grant Catalino’s fifth goal of the day. The game-winner was set up by a hit from Bryn Holmes, a groundball pickup from Brian Farrell and an assist by Dean Hart.

Moments before Maryland (3-0, 1-0) ended the game 2 minutes 10 seconds into overtime, Holmes denied the Blue Devils’ Will McKee a chance to end the game. Instead of getting a shot off from just outside the crease, McKee lost the ball and Farrell quickly picked it up to start the transition the other way.
