After Monday Arrest, Patriots Release Andrews
Willie Andrews was released by the Patriots on Tuesday, a day after his second arrest this offseason.
Andrews, a third-year defensive back, was arrested Monday and held without bail after being charged with illegal possession of a large capacity firearm and assault with a dangerous weapon. He allegedly pointed a handgun at his girlfriend’s head during an argument about 1 a.m. at his apartment in Mansfield, Mass. In February, Andrews was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after being pulled over by authorities in Lowell, Mass. Andrews, 24, was drafted in the seventh round in 2006. He played primarily on special teams in two seasons with the Patriots, totaling 23 tackles and returning four kickoffs for 149 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown Oct. 21 against Miami. The Patriots also announced the signing of their sixth-round pick, linebacker Bo Ruud.
